KOIO

This project was an exploration into how KOIO’s core identity could evolve into a more expressive, fashion-led space while still holding onto its sense of restraint and everyday luxury. I built the concept around a Spring/Summer story called Desert Daze—drawing from sun-washed landscapes, eroded textures, and a palette that feels both grounded and slightly surreal. The intention was to create something that feels effortless and wearable, but with a quiet, elevated point of view.

What I find most compelling about KOIO is that balance between minimalism and craftsmanship—products that feel considered and refined, without ever feeling overworked. I approached this through a material-first lens, exploring the idea of imperfection as a form of luxury. Soft napped suedes, waxed leathers, and subtly distressed finishes bring depth and tactility, giving the product a more nuanced, lived-in feel while still maintaining a clean, premium execution.

The color direction leans into warm, tonal neutrals—sand, clay, and mineral shades—layered with moments of contrast like desert sage and blue agave to create dimension. From a silhouette standpoint, I introduced a platform proportion to shift the product slightly more into a fashion space, while keeping the upper minimal and commercially grounded. I developed both a more classic expression and a “designer’s choice” direction, allowing for a bit more exploration through texture, finish, and detail.

Materiality and construction were key throughout, balancing premium Italian leathers with more progressive options like recycled canvas and Piñatex. Paired with subtle updates to the cupsole, the goal was to introduce texture and depth in a way that still feels effortless. Overall, this project was about refining and elevating—pushing KOIO forward just enough to feel directional, while staying rooted in the simplicity and craftsmanship that define the brand.
